A practical approach to colds & flu. Do you really need to visit a doctor at 2 o'clock in the morning at the emergency room? Find out the answer to this question and others related to the subject of colds, flu and general health.
Lets keep it simple

A generally healthy person with flu doesn't have to see a doctor. Go to the pharmacy and buy:

A good painkiller (combination of Ibuprofen, Paracetamol     and codeine is good).
A good 'pick me upper' like Pseudoefedrine, This is like strong caffeine.

An Antihistamine like loratadine to dry up the runny nose.

Your Pharmacist will now alternatives and the doses to use. this is free - much cheaper then going to casualty.

You do get combination flu medicines 'all in one tablets', but I find the individual ones work better and allow you to tailor the medicine to the symptoms.

Then go home and rest, drink lots of water, Pamper yourself. (not with alcohol - you may fell better but probably take longer to get better - alcohol does your immune system no good).

Flu is uncomfortable and painful but give your body a change to get itself better - sometimes 10 days or longer.

ANTIBIOTICS HAVE NO EFFECT ON UNCOMPLICATED FLU.

Of course if you need a sick certificate for work - then give your doctor a visit.....
